For over 15 years, Evanston, Illinois based Psylotech, Inc. has been designing and building precision multi-scale micro-mechanical testing systems for the global stage. We provide the research community with tools to help better characterize new materials in static and fatigue, that ultimately provide the backbone for modeling data that in turn supports product development. Precision multi-scale micro-mechanical testing systems like µTS (type c, 100 Series and 200 Series) and xTS platforms allow researchers to test materials and small structures under and inside third party optical microscopes, Digital Image Correlation, confocal Raman, SEM, CT scanners and beamlines. The systems have some unique core technologies that include: 1/ High Resolution Load Cells that are 50 times more sensitive than traditional strain gauge technology, 2/ Seven decades of test speeds that can provide the gap in modeling data between traditional servo-hydraulic and Hopkinson Bar apparatus, 3/ Direct drive actuation reduces twist and precision machine services provide under 5 µm low out of plane motion. Psylotest software is intuitive, easy to use, and can be customized with automation modules for controlling and commanding third party stages, lasers, and beamlines. With advent of high temperature refractories, additive manufactured materials, size limited irradiated materials, electronic layered systems, battery membranes, and biological structures, Psylotech is well positioned to characterize these emerging technologies. Research inspired micro-scale mechanical testing of samples as short at 8mm are now mainstream, and commonly called out in new ASTM E8 specification.
